Neil Furmidge is managing director of Smart Metering Technologies Ltd. He holds a PhD in fluid engineering and has over 20 years experience of flow measurement in the water industry.
Neil was instrumental in the work of the CEN TC92 Standards group working toward the introduction of the European Measurement Instruments Directive and the harmonisation of the ISO4064 and OIML R49 water meter standards. Neil is also a key member of the AWWA C713 Water Meter Standards Committee and the BSI BS5728 Water Meter Standards Group, where his expertise in meter design and test methods and equipment are a valuable contribution.
At Cranfield University, Department of Fluid Engineering and Instrumentation, Neil developed the worlds first “no moving parts” domestic water meter. He went on to become Technical Director for Severn Trent Metering Services for over ten years and more recently Vice President Elster SmartMeter Ltd. In 2010 Neil has chosen a new career path and established a consulting firm specialising in meter design and specialist water meter test equipment.
